FoxDL for iPad

A library that finally uses the whole screen.

Multi-column browsing instead of a stretched phone layout, drag and drop from any app, external drives played in place, and the programme guide next to the channel list. The same library as your iPhone, sized for a 13-inch screen.

What it does here

Layouts that use the width

Grids ask for a width rather than a column count, so a 13-inch iPad shows five or six columns where a phone shows two.

Drag and drop, multi-select

Drop files onto the window from Files, Photos or another app, and move, compress or delete a whole selection at once.

USB-C drives, played in place

Bookmark a folder on a connected drive or SD card and play straight from it — no copying, no doubling your storage.

Guide beside the channels

The extra width puts the EPG, the catalogue and the player next to each other instead of behind one another.

Picture in Picture over anything

Keep a video running in a floating window while you take notes in another app (part of FoxDL Pro).

Keyboard and trackpad

Full keyboard and trackpad support throughout, including selection and navigation with a Magic Keyboard.

What the iPad adds over the iPhone

  • Multi-column layouts — library, guide and player side by side.
  • Drag and drop onto the window from other apps.
  • USB-C drives and SD readers browsed and played in place.
  • Keyboard and trackpad support, including multi-select.

The free version on iPad

The iPad follows the iPhone rules: the whole app is free, with a few metered actions and an allowance topped up by a short rewarded video you start yourself.

Questions people ask about this version

How does FoxDL work on iPad?

The iPad layout uses the width instead of stretching a phone screen: multi-column browsing, multi-select, keyboard and trackpad support, drag and drop onto the window, and USB-C drives browsed in place. Everything else — player, downloads, IPTV — is identical to the iPhone.

Can I play from an external drive or another app’s folder?

Yes. Bookmark a folder on a connected drive, an SD card or another app’s storage, and FoxDL browses and plays from it in place — no copying, no doubling your storage. The bookmark survives restarts, so the folder is there next time the drive is.

Read the FAQ
What can the file manager actually do?

Create folders, rename, move, multi-select, compress and delete — plus open PDFs, Office documents and photos in place, and pull the audio out of a video. Favorites, playlists and recently played sit on top, and they survive renaming or moving the underlying file.

How do I play MKV files on iPhone, iPad or Mac?

Open the MKV in FoxDL and it plays. FoxDL decodes MKV itself instead of handing the file to the system player, so there is no conversion step and no waiting — and the subtitle and audio tracks inside the file stay selectable while it plays.

Does FoxDL support Picture in Picture and background playback?

Yes. Picture in Picture keeps video playing in a floating window while you use other apps, and audio keeps playing when the screen locks. Background audio is free for everyone; Picture in Picture is part of FoxDL Pro on every platform.

What is different between the iPhone, iPad and Mac versions?

The engine, the library and the features are the same on all three, and one Pro subscription covers them together. The differences are the layout, a few iPhone-only extras like the Watch companion and Car Mode, and the free tier: the Mac has no advertising at all, so its allowances are daily instead of earned.
