Can I hide the vault itself, or open a fake one if somebody makes me unlock it?
Both are built in. Camouflage gives the vault a name and icon you choose with no lock badge, and tapping it opens a harmless set of files straight away — the real vault is behind a gesture you pick. A second passcode, the decoy PIN, opens that same harmless set from the passcode screen.

A passcode screen is itself a piece of information: it announces that something here is worth protecting. Camouflage removes that signal, and the decoy handles the case where the signal cannot be avoided because somebody is already asking.
Setting it up, from inside the unlocked vault
- Give the vault a name of your choosing and pick an icon from the set offered.
- Prepare the decoy contents — import four or five ordinary files, or leave it looking like an empty folder.
- Choose the hidden gesture that reaches the real vault. The default is a long press of about a second on the title; a two-finger long press and five taps on the title are the alternatives.
With camouflage on, Face ID is not offered automatically when the decoy opens, because a system prompt would announce that something protected is behind it. Biometrics are tried after the gesture instead: gesture, then Face ID, and the passcode screen if that is cancelled — which is what you would do while somebody is watching.
The reverse door
An optional setting, off by default, turns the system prompt against itself: while it is on, every success of that prompt — a Face ID match, or the iOS device passcode people fall back to when Face ID fails — opens the decoy. The real vault answers only to its own passcode, which you never have to demonstrate. It covers the two situations people describe most often: a phone held up to your face, and somebody who already knows your device passcode.
Two things follow automatically, so the disguise stays consistent: masked vault rows are hidden from playlists and recently played, and all the vault settings live inside the opened vault rather than in the app’s Settings, so nothing there mentions a vault at all.
